Tasting Screens: Physical Sensations of Online Sensations (2026)
participatory playshops
organised and facilitated as part of *SCAPE Community Arts Residency 2025-2026 with the TasteTest collective
What if a peanut is the map to discover other foods?
What if an orange is an algorithm into which your dopamine hits?
What if a durian is the mobile device you carry everywhere for stimulation?
A movement-based playshop invited participants to consider their relationship with their phones through guided and embodied exercises.
Using phones as scene partner, participants entered familiar situations, e.g. scrolling on the bus, in bed, on the toilet to find the postures and gestures their bodies take on, and how it felt.
Participants substituted their phones with a skinned fruit or shelled nut, holding and handling it as if it were a screen. Watermelons, kumquats and peanuts. Questions were raised, such as: what exactly are we touching when we scroll? What kinds of stimulation do we seek, and how much?
